Meet Tom

Born and raised in New Mexico, Tom Montoya has practiced family law for over 40 years. Tom received his law degree from the University of Southern California and his practice focuses on family law, which covers a very wide and comprehensive area of law. Any business or personal activity that spouses or partners have in common may be, and frequently is, an issue in family law.

Tom has an “AV” Preeminent Rating from the Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review and has been named in “Southwest Super Lawyers” and “Best of the Bar for Family Law” by New Mexico Business Weekly. Tom has been a member of the prestigious American Law Institute for 23 years, the 100-year-old national organization comprised of law professors, judges, and lawyers, which sets forth what the law is, for use by judges in all federal and state courts, for deciding trial and appellate cases throughout the country.

Tom has lobbied and testified over 30 times regarding New Mexico legislative enactments in family law and has drafted significant family law legislation. Tom was appointed Chair of the New Mexico Supreme Court Rules Committee, responsible for statewide rules for domestic relations and domestic violence cases, and was a New Mexico Crime Victims Reparation Commissioner for eight years.
